“I have left the children with a suitable sitter and Cerberus. Take me out on a date.”

“…That poor sitter. Heh, very well then, let me just get cleaned up and we can go.”

“Eh… I’ve not been idle since I’ve been gone,” he shrugged. “Sometimes it’s best to keep some secrets,” the devil added with a smirk.

“I have a few other tricks up my sleeve, if you’re ever interested,” Vergil hummed lightly. “You might even enjoy a few of them.”

“Do tell.” Shiro leaned back, resting her weight on her elbows. “Or is it more of a show than a tell?”

“Hm, then it’s overdue,” the devil nodded. At least Vergil could share this experience with them as something new-ish.

“I’m glad it was unexpected,” he chuckled softly. “Is that what you did? I took it easy on you,” Vergil snorted. “Any time with you is well-spent.”

Shiro nodded in agreement.

“I’m liking getting reacquainted; but since when could you make spectral swords like that? I don’t recall you doing that the last time you were around.”

“…That poor sitter. Heh, very well then, let me just get cleaned up and we can go.”

Vergil noticed Shiro seemed a little hesitant, and it stung a little, but he didn’t let it show on his face. He couldn’t blame her for not jumping right in – just because HE didn’t have any real memory of being missing, didn’t mean she didn’t either.

“It will be fun, and the weather is perfect lately,” he agreed. The private beach trip could wait, this one was for family. “Even the dog might enjoy it.” Cerberus was a member of the family, even if he drooled, so Vergil knew better than to leave him out. Plus the extra security for the children would be nice.

“I had fun tonight. Thank you for coming out here with me.”

“The twins haven’t been to the beach since they were toddlers.” She leaned against him, previous subject forgotten. “There were chances with school, but I was always too busy to volunteer to chaperone and couldn’t let them go.”

She lightly prodded him the side with a talon. “Not my idea of a date, but I admit I had fun kicking your ass,” she chuckled. “I’m the one that forced you out, so thank you for indulging me.”

“…That poor sitter. Heh, very well then, let me just get cleaned up and we can go.”

“Hmm…. you can always elope with me. Think of it now… a nice beach somewhere. Just you, me, the ocean…” he hummed. “Dante can babysit.” That was actually probably a terrible idea, but maybe.

“We can discuss the details later,” Vergil added with a smirk. “No need to rush.” Shiro in a bikini was a nice thought, but he’d save that for himself for later.

Shiro pursed her lips and looked into her drink, swirling it lightly in thought; it was one thing to risk her heart with him again, but another promise of marriage? She’s not so sure…

“I’ll think about it, but another beach trip does sound fun - with the kids of course.”

“Well, no, unless our marriage is no longer valid. Plus, I forgot your ring size,” he teased lightly. “I promised I wouldn’t rush you back into anything… so by that, you should be the one to propose to me next time,” Vergil pointed out.

“How about we just toast to us. Not killing one another yet.”

“If I propose we’re not having a Fortunian wedding again,” she snorted. The divorce was a pain in the ass, their marriage laws were worse than catholics.

“I can toast to that.” She raised her glass. “To not killing each other.”
